First Baptist Academy families especially love our design for small class sizes, a dedicated enrichment tutor, music and chapel programs. Our facilities are newly renovated, including our large shaded playground. At First Baptist Academy we strive for excellence, offering families an affordable weekday Christ-centered education for children. Above all, we offer a safe and loving environment for your children, from our updated facilities to the warm hearts of our teachers.
The Academy is a licensed childcare center within the state of Texas, however we operate as a weekday early childhood preschool, not a traditional daycare center. We offer a variety of classes to fit the needs of different families. Two-day classes are held Tuesday and Thursday, or Monday and Wednesday (two-day classes are for toddlers only). Three-day classes are Tuesday through Thursday. Four-day classes are Monday through Thursday. All classes begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.
Our Classes
-
FBA offers one toddler class. The class will focus on verbal development through art, music, play, stories, and social interaction. The children begin learning pre-reading and pre-math skills to help prepare them for school. The children work on large and small motor skills as they do many different activities throughout the day.
-
Discovery Twos class is an adventure in learning! The children discover more about themselves and their surroundings. They continue to work on verbal development by describing their world and themselves. The teachers support the parents in potty training the children. The children learn as they play! The children continue to work on pre-reading and pre-math skills essential for a successful student. The two year olds meet three or four days a week to optimize their learning opportunities.
-
Readiness Threes are ready for more classroom learning. The children spend time sitting and listening as well as learning through play. The children work on learning to sort, one to one correspondence, patterning, and other pre-math activities. They also spend more time learning pre-reading skills, to prepare them for school. Three-year olds are active learners, even though they spend more time learning the 3 Rs, it is done through learning adventures and music! Classes are offered 3 or 4 days a week.
-
Pre-kindergarten (Pre-K) children are almost ready for school! The teachers teach many things through art, music, and movement. Four and five year olds can sit still for 3-5 minutes, and so they are expected to sit and listen for short periods of time. The children learn to read some sight words, as well as sound out some words. Pre-k has an enrichment teacher that works with every child on their level. Some children are reading while others are learning to write their names. The enrichment class celebrates each child’s gifts while helping them to grow and learn. Classes are offered 3 or 4 days a week.
-
Our Kindergarten class is purposefully kept small at 12 or fewer kids for a more personalized education fit to their needs. We use aBeka book curriculum with supplementation to help with teaching them to read and grow in learning. Our schedule includes Writing Workshop, Math, Reading Skills, Language Arts, Bible, Science, Social Studies, and recess every day. Our inclusive classroom gives your child room to grow and succeed in Kindergarten.
Enrichment
One of the biggest assets at First Baptist Academy is our enrichment tutor. We offer free, small group tutoring as suggested by our teachers with our tutor throughout the school day. The individual attention given to a child who may be struggling with a skill makes all the difference in their education!
Music and Movement
At FBA, Children sing, dance, play games, learn rhythm, and play age-appropriate instruments. Music is an essential part of learning language, and is highly engaging for the kids. Academy kids share their love of music with family and friends at our Christmas Show and Spring Show. Children also work on physical education skills, including balance, throwing, jumping, running. They also learn cooperative games and social skills through movement.
Each week, Academy kids attend chapel, where guest speakers come to provide a Bible lesson for the kids. The children practice learning to be quiet in reverence during Bible teaching and prayer, as well as how to participate in worshipping together through engaging Christ-centered songs.
Curriculum
At The Academy, we care deeply about keeping biblical teachings and values at the center of our curriculum. We use aBeka book curriculum, and adjust our lesson plans to create a well thought-out scope and sequence. Every few weeks, we have a new theme relevant to the time of year and what we are learning in the classroom to help kids form connections beyond the classroom.
